How to Apply

Applying to one of ELLI's programs is simple. Learn more about our program requirements and then follow the instructions for your preferred program. The tuition and fees for full-time international students enrolled in ELLI provide access to all campus resources and services for undergraduate students

Accelerated Mountaineer Program for ESL (AMP ESL)

Apply directly to the AMP ESL Program at West Virginia University using the  WVU Application Page for International Students & ELLI AMP ESL.  New Applicants: Once you create an account, you may sign in and choose your program.
New applicants can also use this page to apply to the IEP full-time and part-time, or the AMP ESL Prep Programs.

AMP ESL Application - How to Apply to AMP ESL
Step 1: Choose "Start New".
Step 2: Choose "West Virginia University at Morgantown Campus"
(AMP ESL is not offered on other campuses.)
Step 3:  New Application
What type of student are you?  Choose "English Language Learning Institute".
Are you an international applicant?  Choose "Yes (Not a U.S. Citizen)".
What program are you applying for?  Choose "Accelerated Mountaineer Program for ESL".
Term:   Choose the term you wish to begin studies at WVU.
Now you are ready to start your application as a  new student.
Step 4:  Click on "Start Application".

Any international applicant who applies for direct academic admission as a full-time student and does not meet the entry level English language requirements to begin full-time academic study will be automatically directed to the AMP ESL program. Those applicants will receive assistance in registering for the appropriate AMP ESL courses.

To apply to the IEP Program as a full-time or part-time student, in Step 3 choose the appropriate program from the list.

AMP ESL Deadlines and Dates:

  • Spring semester
    • On-campus face-to-face program: Applications due October 1, all documents due November 1
  • Summer semester
    • On-campus face-to-face program: Applications due Feb. 15th, submit documents early.
  • Fall semester
    • On-campus face-to-face program: Applications due June 1, all documents due July 1

Programs operate on the WVU academic calendar for fall, spring and summer semesters.

Application Fee:  $65.00


Intensive English Program (IEP) Face-to-Face

To apply for the IEP, first determine if you want to be a full-time or part-time student. Then choose the IEP Program as a full-time or part-time student, in Step 3 choose the appropriate program from the list.

Register as a returning IEP student.

Apply to be a part-time IEP student.

For new students, to apply to the IEP Face-to-Face full-time and the AMP-ESL Prep Online, please follow these steps:

  1. Submit your online application. The application takes about 30 minutes to complete.
  2. Pay the application fee. The application fee may be paid either by a credit card, over the phone, with a money order or with a bank draft.
  • After receiving your IEP admission letter, claim your WVU account. 
  • Check your WVU MIX email for the invitation from WVU International Students and Scholars Services (ISSS) to begin the on-boarding process. You will request your I-20 through their student portal.

    IEP Face-to-Face Application Deadlines
    • Spring semester
      • On-campus face-to-face program: Applications due October 1, all documents due November 1
    • Summer semester
      • On-campus face-to-face program: Applications due Feb. 15th, submit documents early.
    • Fall semester
      • On-campus face-to-face program: Applications due June 1, all documents due July 1

    AMP-ESL-PREP Online

    Apply: For new students, to apply to the AMP-ESL Prep Online, please follow these steps.

    1. Submit your online application. The application takes about 30 minutes to complete.
    2. Pay the application fee. The application fee may be paid either by a credit card, over the phone, with a money order or with a bank draft.
    3. Submit your transcripts.

    AMP ESL PREP Online - Deadlines and Dates:
    • Spring semester
      • Online program (no visa requirements): Applications due January 5
    • Summer semester: May 6
    • Fall semester
      • Online program (no visa requirements): Applications due August 5
    Placement Test Schedule:
    Students may sign up to take the placement test prior to committing to the program.
